Welcoming Jay Borenstein to Rally Ventures
Meet our new venture partner.
We’re thrilled to welcome Jay Borenstein to the Rally Ventures team. In his role as venture partner, Jay will be responsible for driving new investments, supporting existing portfolio companies and deepening our expertise in edtech and extended reality (XR).
Jay brings 25+ years of experience as a founder, operator and investor to Rally Ventures. He is a lecturer of computer science at Stanford University with a focus on virtual reality, software engineering and entrepreneurship.
Jay also runs the Education Modernization (EdMod) Group at Facebook. In this role, he focuses on leveraging modern technologies to improve education and create more equity in education. EdMod initiatives include Facebook inspirED, Beats Unlocked, Engineer For The Week, VR Camp and Facebook Open Academy.
Jay founded IntApp Inc., a Palo Alto-based business management software company, in 2000 and served as the company’s CEO through 2007. IntApp raised $273 million in its initial public offering (Nasdaq: INTA) in June of 2021. Jay previously served as the Managing Director at Chmod Ventures, which was a satellite fund of Lightspeed Venture Partners.
At Rally Ventures, Jay will focus on leading new early-stage investments for the firm with a focus on seed and pre-seed investments. He’ll bring his experience identifying and investing in technology-first companies to the Rally portfolio. Jay’s background as a founder and an educator working with students at the formative stage gives him a unique understanding of what it takes to make early-stage founders successful.
When asked about what tech trends he’s most excited about, Jay said:
I’m a big believer in XR as a medium. In the not-too-distant future, people will have access to augmented reality in their daily lives. It has lots of potential to change the way we’re able to conduct business and experience different parts of the world.
The potential of quantum computing to be really disruptive, especially in the security space. This isn’t near-term, but it’s something to watch.
The possibilities of machine learning and our ability to harvest useful information out of data. We’ve only scratched the surface of the value that can be derived.
At Rally, we pride ourselves on taking an in-depth operational approach to working with portfolio companies. Jay’s ability to relate to founders and understand the intricacies of their technologies and businesses will make him a fantastic addition to our team of partners, professionals and technology partners as we continue our strategy of investing in early-stage companies bringing transformative approaches to enterprise technology.
We look forward to working with Jay and are glad to have him as a resource for Rally and our portfolio companies moving forward. Please join us in welcoming Jay to the Rally team!
